The Hopefully Last Invasion

Springtime is here, and unfortunately so are the 'ipis'! That's the Tagalog name for the freakishly nasty, creepy insects you see here. You probably call them cockroaches, or roaches if you like nicknames. Some of you probably would consider them as pets, right? I want you to stare at them closely and don't take your eyes off that photo for at least 1 minute. Can you stand the sight of them?

Now imagine what happened to me this morning as I was getting ready for work. As a thoughtful wife who holds an early morning teaching job, I wake up at my usual 5am in the morning. My husband is dead asleep in bed. I do my very best to turn on the least amount of lights possible, and keep noise at the minimal volume because I don't want to wake up Erwil in our bedroom upstairs.

I made my way trouncing down the staircase into the dimly sunlit living room when I saw something dark and oval moving across the hardwood floor. It will never take floodlights for my eyes to recognize the shape and sense the scuttling movement of a big ipis. I know ipis!

"EEERRRRWIILLL! THERE'S AN IPIS DOWNSTAIRS! HURRY!," yelling upstairs in my repulse. Mr. Ipis must've heard me. I'm sure he sensed the volume through his long sensory antennae because he stopped walking and thought of his next move. We were probably mutually frightened of each other. Either way, one of us will be dead before the DVR player digitizes 6:30am. All I have to say is that it's not going to be me.

Erwil, came down in a lurch. He hates ipis! He went and pulled out one of his black leather oxford shoes. Just as soon as Erwil was approaching Mr. Ipis for the kill, the little ugly one bolted straight under our video-game stand. Erwil and I were both upset that the little bugger got away. I'm terrified and hate ipis! It's much worse for Erwil. There's deep enmity between my husband and Mr. Ipis and his ilk.

Mr. Ipis should have know bettter: you don't come into Erwil's house and live. Other roaches, crickets, spiders, ants, and other insects have tried to establish a beachhead in the house before. Heck, even a wasps' nest tried to lay claim to our backyard's patio.

All have failed, smote down with a vengence.

After searching high and low for Mr. Ipis, pulling the cords out from under the video-game stand, and finally moving the video-game stand out of the way, Erwil spotted Mr. Ipis trying to blend in with the cable cords.

Silly Mr. Ipis.

Erwil gave Mr. Ipis one satisfying "SMACK!"

It was over.
